Frankland strives to provide a safe and caring learning environment where each child has the opportunity to reach a high level of achievement and develop the knowledge, skills, and values to become a responsible member of our Canadian society. At the Heart of the Community

On September 1st, 1876 Henry Robertshaw Frankland was born in Toronto. His family were central to life on the Danforth. His father owned and operated a butcher shop on the North East corner of Pape and Danforth where they also lived. Henry Frankland was a key figure in Toronto, and served in many capacities such as Reeve, Justice of the Peace, Alderman, School Trustee and much more. When plans were made to build a new school to serve the rapidly growing Danforth area; Henry fought to have the school centrally located. In 1910, Frankland Community School was opened on Logan Avenue just south of Danforth Avenue in north Riverdale, near Withrow Park.The two-storey eleven room school was named in honour of the Frankland family’s dedication to the community.  In 1980, it was rebuilt and expanded to include a swimming pool, a daycare, a double gymnasium and a community centre. The school is a shared-use facility and works in partnership with the Community Centre and Frankland Daycare.
