As you enter the lobby for the December concert tomorrow, you may notice a tree, sitting bare. Bring in a gift card for Walmart, No Frills or movie passes in denominations of $25 or less and drop it in the school office, then place a bough on our Giving Tree. Your gift card will bring comfort and enjoyment to the families who are still displaced from the Parliament St. fire last August.
In August of this year and six-alarm fire occurred at the residential tower at 650 Parliament St., forcing 1500 people from their homes. At Rose Avenue Public School, there are 74 families still affected by this fire. These families have lost everything in the fire.The school is doing what they can to help these families – feeding them breakfast, lunch and dinner, extending daycare hours, the community centre is trying to stay open to offer accommodations. Most will not be able to return to their homes for quite a while still, some for as long as a year. These families are in need of food and clothing now and as they start to move back home.
